1 August Psalm 93

The LORD is King

Psalm 93 vividly portrays the LORD as both King and Lord, focusing particularly on His roles as the Creator and Sustainer of Creation. This Psalm is a short, bold declaration of God’s might, power, and holiness, emphasising the majesty of God.

In Psalm 93:1(AMP) this majesty is powerfully conveyed: The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty and splendor; The LORD has clothed and encircled Himself with strength; the world is firmly established, it cannot be moved.

God’s majesty is further expressed through His eternal throne, as stated in Psalm 93:2(AMP) Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting.

Theologian Adam Clarke beautifully articulates this eternal reign: “There never was a time in which God did not reign, in which He was not a supreme and absolute Monarch; for He is from everlasting. There never was a time in which He was not; there never can be a period in which He shall cease to exist.”

The might of God is another central theme in Psalm 93, particularly in verses 3-4(AMP) The floods have lifted up, O LORD, The floods have lifted up their voice; The floods lift up their pounding waves. More than the sounds of many waters, More than the mighty breakers of the sea, The LORD on high is mighty. This imagery of nature’s power serves as a metaphor for God’s unparalleled strength.

Psalm 93:5(AMP) speaks to the might of His holiness: Your precepts are fully confirmed and completely reliable; Holiness adorns Your house, O LORD, forever. This verse assures us of the enduring nature of God’s righteous commands and the ever-present holiness that adorns His dwelling.

Overall, Psalm 93 assures us that nothing can stand against our mighty God, whose power manifests in everything from the crashing waves of the sea to the thunderous voice of nature. The message of this Psalm encourages us not only to trust in God’s might but also to seek refuge in Him during challenging times. By acknowledging His strength, we can experience the comforting embrace of a God who shields us from harm.
