Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty
Revelation 4:8(NLT) Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”
The phrase “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come” is a profound expression of God’s divine nature, specifically His holiness, omnipotence, and eternality. It serves to highlight the utmost holiness of God, setting Him apart as sacred and untouchable in His perfection and righteousness.
Leviticus 11:44-45(NIV) I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves along the ground. I am the LORD, who brought you up out of Egypt to be your God; therefore be holy, because I am holy.
The term Lord God, the Almighty underscores God’s omnipotence, meaning He has unlimited power and authority over all of creation.
Jeremiah 32:17(NIV) “Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.
The one who always was, who is, and who is still to come – this phrase emphasises the eternal nature of God. It signifies that God exists beyond time and is not bound by it.
Who always was, speaks to God’s timelessness and presence before creation.
Who is, asserts God’s present tense existence.
Who is still to come, affirms that God will be present and active in the future.
Exodus 3:14(NIV) God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.”‘
Psalm 90:2(NIV) Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
Isaiah 44:6(NIV) “This is what the LORD says—Israel’s King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.”
I conclude with 1 Peter 1:15-16(AMP) But like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves in all your conduct [be set apart from the world by your godly character and moral courage]; because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLY (set apart), FOR I AM HOLY.”
