10 January 2022 – Community service

Community service is one of the best ways to help benefit the public or give back to your community. It does not only have positive effects on society, but it will bring benefits to your life and personal development.

James 2:14-17 (ESV) “What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

Galatians 6:10 (ESV) “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”

Matthew 25:35 (ESV) “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me”

Galatians 6:9-10 (MSG) “So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.”

Volunteering your time to support a cause you are passionate about is something you will never regret. It will enrich your life, familiarise you with your community, and connect you to people and ideas that will positively impact your perspective for the rest of your life. Helping your community is an opportunity for you to grow as a person, to better understand how you fit into the world around you. People who volunteer regularly are healthier both physically and mentally.
