11 December 2023 – Depend on the Lord rely

1 Samuel 23:12-14(NLT) Again David asked, “Will the leaders of Keilah betray me and my men to Saul?” And the Lord replied, “Yes, they will betray you.” So David and his men – about 600 of them now – left Keilah and began roaming the countryside. Word soon reached Saul that David had escaped, so he didn’t go to Keilah after all. David now stayed in the strongholds of the wilderness and in the hill country of Ziph. Saul hunted him day after day, but God didn’t let Saul find him.

David had good reason to conclude that after delivering Keilah from the Philistines, its citizens would be on his side. But he did not put any confidence in their loyalty. So, he sought further counsel from the Lord.

David did not put his trust in people; he knew that depending on God would be the best for him. We should never depend on others but should depend only on the Lord for our guidance and protection.

Once more, the Lord responded immediately to David’s inquiry, saying: “Yes, they will betray you”. Had David decided to depend on other people; he would have gotten it all wrong. By inquiring from the Lord, he quickly learned what he had to do – he stayed in the stronghold of the Wilderness.

Dependence starts by acknowledging Almighty God as the owner of everything and the controller of every circumstance. Nothing is impossible with God, and everything is within His reach. Your part is to trust and obey, and His part is to do the rest. Dependency relies on Him working in and through you.

_Psalms 62:5-12(GNT) I depend on God alone; I put my hope in him. He alone protects and saves me; he is my defender, and I shall never be defeated. My salvation and honor depend on God; he is my strong protector; he is my shelter. Trust in God at all times, my people. Tell him all your troubles, for he is our refuge. Human beings are all like a puff of breath; great and small alike are worthless. Put them on the scales, and they weigh nothing; they are lighter than a mere breath. Don’t put your trust in violence; don’t hope to gain anything by robbery; even if your riches increase, don’t depend on them. More than once I have heard God say that power belongs to him and that his love is constant. You yourself, O Lord, reward everyone according to their deeds.-

Micah 7:5-7(NKJV) Do not trust in a friend; Do not put your confidence in a companion; Guard the doors of your mouth. From her who lies in your bosom. For son dishonors father, Daughter rises against her mother, Daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; A man’s enemies are the men of his own household. Therefore I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me.

Why should we depend on God, instead of people? God is always present and available to those who depend on Him. It is much better to depend on God because people and things may fail us. However, God will never fail us.
