Leviticus 6:12-13 (NIV) The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood and arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat of the fellowship offerings on it. The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out.
1 Kings 18:36-38 (NKJV) And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, “LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word. Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that You are the LORD God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again.” Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench.
As soon as Elijah prayed, the Lord answered, and fire fell from heaven! In his prayer, Elijah acknowledged God as the true God. He proclaimed that he is a servant of God and followed the instructions of the word of God. He was committed to God. In his prayer to God, he asked God to hear him, and answer his prayer. He prayed that the people could see that God is the Lord of all and that their hearts be turned back to God. Lastly, he prayed for fire. Elijah’s prayer is and good example of someone that kept the fire burning on the altar.
Today, I want to deviate from the original daily devotions, and focus on prayer for the fire of God. If you are serious about the fire of God in your life, take a moment and pray this prayer with me.
“Your throne, O Lord, is like a fiery flame. You are the God that answers by fire. A fire goes before You, O Lord, and burns up Your enemies. Lord, release Your fire and burn up the works of darkness. Baptize me with the Holy Ghost and fire. Let Your fire be in my hands to heal the sick and cast out devils. Let Your fire burn in my eyes, my heart, my belly, my mouth, and my feet. Let Your fire be on my tongue to preach and prophesy. I receive tongues of fire. Let Your Word be preached with fire. Deliver me with Your fire. Let Your fire protect and cover me. I release the fire of God to burn up the idols of the land. Let the works of witchcraft and occultism burn up in Your fire. Purify my life with Your fire. Let Your fire be released in Zion. Release the spirit of burning to burn up the works of darkness. Let Your glory and power ignite a burning fire. Lord, come and rebuke Your enemies with flames of fire. Let all flesh see Your fire released. Let the fire of Your presence be released in my life. Let demons be exposed and cast out by Your fire. Cast forth lightning and scatter the enemy.
Let Your light be a fire, and Your Holy One a flame to burn the sins and thorns in my life.
