11 November 2023 – The birth of a promise

Exodus 3:7-12(MSG) GOD said, “I’ve taken a good, long look at the affliction of my people in Egypt. I’ve heard their cries for deliverance from their slave masters; I know all about their pain. And now I have come down to help them, pry them loose from the grip of Egypt, get them out of that country and bring them to a good land with wide-open spaces, a land lush with milk and honey, the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite. “The Israelite cry for help has come to me, and I’ve seen for myself how cruelly they’re being treated by the Egyptians. It’s time for you to go back: I’m sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the People of Israel, out of Egypt.” Moses answered God, “But why me? What makes you think that I could ever go to Pharaoh and lead the children of Israel out of Egypt?” “I’ll be with you,” God said. “And this will be the proof that I am the one who sent you: When you have brought my people out of Egypt, you will worship God right here at this very mountain.”

God’s people are in Egypt under very difficult circumstances. They call to God for help. God makes them a promise: He will lead them out for Egypt into the promise land. Interestingly, our promises of victory and breakthrough are always given in difficult times. We receive the promise in our Egypt – difficult times. Egypt is the place of pain, slavery, and struggles. It is during this time that we call out to God for help.

Exodus 2:23-25(NLT) Years passed, and the king of Egypt died. But the Israelites continued to groan under their burden of slavery. They cried out for help, and their cry rose up to God. God heard their groaning, and he remembered his covenant promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He looked down on the people of Israel and knew it was time to act.

While Israel was in slavery, they cried out to God, and He heard them. During this time Moses received the promise from God that He will lead them to a good land, a land lush with milk and honey.

“Be not dismayed whate’er betide, God will take care of you; Beneath His wings of love abide, God will take care of you. Through days of toil when heart doth fail, God will take care of you; When dangers fierce your path assail, God will take care of you. All you may need He will provide; God will take care of you; Nothing you ask will be denied, God will take care of you. No matter what may be the test, God will take care of you; Lean, weary one, upon His breast, God will take care of you.” – Civilla D. Martin, 1904

Throughout the Bible God’s people have always received a promise of victory. Moses received the promise of the promise land, while his people was in slavery, Abraham received the promise of a child when Sarah was unable to have children, Joseph received the promise of rulership and that his bothers will bow before him, while they hated him.

Psalms 9:9-10(NIV) “The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.”
