11 September 2021 – I am no longer a slave

I would like to quote some lyrics from the song “I am no longer a slave” from Bethel Music.
“I’m no longer a slave to fear. I am a child of God. I’m no longer a slave to fear. I am a child of God. From my mother’s womb You have chosen me. Love has called my name. I’ve been born again into a family. Your blood flows through my veins. I’m no longer a slave to fear. I am a child of God. I’m no longer a slave to fear. I am a child of God. I am surrounded by the arms of the Father. I am surrounded by songs of deliverance. We’ve been liberated from our bondage.”

Romans 8:15-17 (NLT) “So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. 17 And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.”

Galatians 4:7 (ESV) “So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.”

Romans 6:6-7 (GWT) “We know that the person we used to be was crucified with him to put an end to sin in our bodies. Because of this we are no longer slaves to sin. 7 The person who has died has been freed from sin.”

We have the status not of “a slave” but of “sonship”. I am a child of God

We have an assurance that we are children of God through:

The inner witness of the Holy Spirit provides the assurance that we are children of God. 1 John 3:24 (ESV) “Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.”

Being grounded in God and our true belief in him. 1 John 5:1 (The Voice) “Everyone who trusts Jesus as the long-awaited Anointed One is a child of God, and everyone who loves the Father cannot help but love the child fathered by Him.”

Our obedience to God 1 John 2:5-6 (The Voice) “But if someone responds to and obeys His word, then God’s love has truly taken root and filled him. This is how we know we are in an intimate relationship with Him: 6 anyone who says, “I live in intimacy with Him,” should walk the path Jesus walked.”

“Child of God, you cost Christ too much for him to forget you.” Charles Spurgeon
