“Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done.” – CS Lewis
To rely on is to depend on with full trust or confidence. Relying on God requires faith, so there needs to be a certainty of His love hidden in our hearts. With this assurance, we can trust His character and believe our every need will be met. People can accomplish great things in life through talent, training and hard work, but we can do this by either being self-reliant or God-reliant.
Jeremiah 17:5(ESV) Trusting in People and Trusting in God. This is what the LORD says: “Bad things will happen to those who put their trust in people. Bad things will happen to those who depend on human strength. That is because they have stopped trusting the LORD.
The Bible is clear that striving for your own power and strength leaves your life without meaning.
Jeremiah 17:7-8(MSG) “But blessed is the man who trusts me, GOD, the woman who sticks with GOD. They’re like trees replanted in Eden, putting down roots near the rivers – Never a worry through the hottest of summers, never dropping a leaf, Serene and calm through droughts, bearing fresh fruit every season.”
Sometimes we must pause and force ourselves to focus on God; rely on his strength, ability, and power.
Matthew 6:6(MSG) “Here’s what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace.”
Proverbs 3:5-8(MSG) Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for GOD’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to GOD! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health, our very bones will vibrate with life!
“We can achieve our goals either by human effort or by the power of God. The dependence on God’s power is the best choice.” – Lailah Gifty Akita
“The frequency of prayer indicates one’s level of dependence on God.” – Gift Gugu Mona
I conclude with: “I have complete confidence that God is able to take care of any situation and provide an answer to any question or problem – He has all the resources of the universe to draw upon in helping each one of us through any type of crisis if we will trust Him.” – Charles Stanley
