13 December 2022 – The Lord never tires of our asking

2 Samuel 2:1 (NIV) In the course of time, David inquired of the LORD. “Shall I go up to one of the towns of Judah?” he asked. The LORD said, “Go up.” David asked, “Where shall I go?” “To Hebron,” the LORD answered.

This inquiry took place after the Philistines killed Saul and Jonathan. David would not take one step without consulting the Lord. He was in submission to the Lord and completely dependent on Him. God’s answer came at once: ‘Go up … to Hebron.’ There he was anointed, king.

The Lord never tires of our asking. The more we seek His counsel, the more He is honoured and pleased.

Jesus told a parable about a persistent widow who kept asking a judge to hear her case.

Luke 18:4-5 (AMP) “For a time he would not; but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow continues to bother me, I will give her justice and legal protection; otherwise by continually coming she [will be an intolerable annoyance and she] will wear me out.’”

Our heavenly Father is nothing like the judge in the parable. God never grows weary of listening to His children.

Luke 18:6-8 (AMP) “Then the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says! And will not [our just] God defend and avenge His elect [His chosen ones] who cry out to Him day and night? Will He delay [in providing justice] on their behalf? I tell you that He will defend and avenge them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find [this kind of persistent] faith on the earth?”

Matthew 7:7 (AMP) “Ask and keep on asking and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking and you will find; knock and keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you.”

1 John 5:14-15 (NIV) “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”

2 Chronicles 16:9 (AMP) For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth so that He may support those whose heart is completely His.

The interesting thing about God is that He will help you if you ask Him. Asking is seeking God’s help for the answer. Seeking and knocking are putting feet to your faith, knowing that as you do it with God’s help, believing God will lead you to the answer.
