Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good
Psalm 136:1-3(NKJV) Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Oh, give thanks to the God of gods! For His mercy endures forever. Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords! For His mercy endures forever:
The word translated as mercy, in the original language means loyal, steadfast, enduring love.
The New Living Translation says: Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.
The Message Translation says: Thank GOD! He deserves your thanks. His love never quits.
Mercy, or loyal love, is who God is. It is His character. By His very nature, He shows unstoppable, limitless, everlasting mercy, even to those who don’t deserve it.
Lamentations 3:22-23(NLT) The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.
Ezra 3:11(NIV) With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the LORD: “He is good; his love toward Israel endures forever.” And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.
Charles Spurgeon said: “He is good beyond all others; indeed, he alone is good in the highest sense; he is the source of good, the good of all good, the sustainer of good, the perfecter of good, and the rewarder of good. For this he deserves the constant gratitude of his people.”
His mercy endures forever: The declaration proclaims that God’s mercy never ends and will always be given to His people. The greatest demonstration of the mercy of God was seen in the person and work of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world.
1 Peter 1:3(NLT) All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation,
I conclude with Charles Spurgeon who teaches: “The past, present, or future will not end His mercy. The storms of life will not end His mercy. Distance from loved ones will not end His mercy. Death itself will not end His mercy. God’s never-ending mercy should make us merciful to others. God’s never-ending mercy should make us hopeful for others. God’s never-ending mercy should make us hopeful for ourselves.”
