2 Samuel 5:17-21(NIV) When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, they went up in full force to search for him, but David heard about it and went down to the stronghold. Now the Philistines had come and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim; so David inquired of the LORD, “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?” The LORD answered him, “Go, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hands.” So David went to Baal Perazim, and there he defeated them. He said, “As waters break out, the LORD has broken out against my enemies before me.” So that place was called Baal Perazim. The Philistines abandoned their idols there, and David and his men carried them off.
The fact that David had ascended to the throne of Israel did not deter his enemies but made them jealous, to attack him. David’s response to the Philistines was that instead of accepting their challenge and immediately engaging them in battle, he turned to the Lord. And the Lord immediately responded and assured David of a victory: “Go, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hands.”
God promised to deliver them into his hands and God did. David rightfully attributed the victory to the hand of God declaring: “As waters break out, the LORD has broken out against my enemies before me.” God broke out against the enemies of David only because David inquired of God. David went out to battle under divine directives. God will only break out against your enemies if you depend on Him.
We should never stop inquiring of the Lord. We should continually seek the will of God in all we do. Then and only the Lord will break out like waters against our enemies and give us victory.
Psalm 27:4(AMPC) One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and [insistently] require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty . . . of the Lord, and to meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple.
May we continually seek the will of God in all we do, and may God continually break out like waters against our enemies and give us victory against every opposition we encounter.
