Let us be a blessing this Christmas Season – Bless God

The blessings God gives us are intended to be shared with all. Christmas is a time of giving. Just as God has giving His best, His only Son we must also give our best. We must bless God. What does it mean to bless God?

Man’s blessing God is an expression of praising thankfulness. It is an exclamation of gratitude and admiration towards God.

Deuteronomy 8:10 (ESV) “And you shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.”

Psalm 100:4 (ESV) “Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!”

Psalm 145:10 (ESV) “All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord, and all your saints shall bless you!”

Psalm 103:2 (ESV) “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits”

Psalm 104:1 (ESV) “Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, you are very great! You are clothed with splendour and majesty”

Psalm 34:1 (ESV) “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
“To bless the Lord is done out of understanding that He alone is genuinely deserving of worship as Creator and Lord. To bless the Lord means to praise, exalt, and worship the Lord God.” – Dave Jenkins

The word for blessing comes from the Hebrew noun (barakah), which is used to explain the covenant favour and goodness of the Lord. The verb “to bless” (barak) means “to kneel” but is often used to describe the worship of the Lord’s people in praise and prayer.

Psalm 103:1-5 includes the idea of complete worship of the Lord without holding back.
Psalm 103:1-5 (NLT) “Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. 2 Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. 3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. 4 He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. 5 He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!”

John 4:24 (ESV) “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
