Be still, and know that I am God
Psalm 46:10(NIV) He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
The words Be still and know that I am God encourages us to pause and think. It’s a reminder that God is always in charge, no matter what goes on in our lives. When we’re still and focus on our faith, we can feel calm even when things are hectic. It’s good to use this time to be grateful and to understand that challenges are part of God’s plan for us. Praying and asking for God’s guidance and strength will help. While it might be hard to find quiet moments, these moments can be very rewarding. They remind us that God is always there for us.
Be still in this Psalm means to stop trying so hard or to just stop. It tells the enemies of God’s people to stop fighting. For God’s people, it means to wake up and stop being afraid. Realise Who God is and be amazed by Him!
In the context of Psalm 46, Be still and know who God is, is explained like this in Psalm 46:1-3&7(NIV) God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. . . . . The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
