16 August 2023 – Determination

Matthew 20:29-34(MSG) As they were leaving Jericho, a huge crowd followed. Suddenly they came upon two blind men sitting alongside the road. When they heard it was Jesus passing, they cried out, “Master, have mercy on us! Mercy, Son of David!” The crowd tried to hush them up, but they got all the louder, crying, “Master, have mercy on us! Mercy, Son of David!” Jesus stopped and called over, “What do you want from me?” They said, “Master, we want our eyes opened. We want to see!” Deeply moved, Jesus touched their eyes. They had their sight back that very instant, and joined the procession.

Amazing to see that our circumstances deeply move Jesus. Sometimes people think that Jesus does not hear or see them. These two blind men heard about Jesus, and while He was passing by, they cried, and they kept on crying until Jesus noticed them. I believe that Jesus was moved by their determination. Scripture says the crowd tried to quiet them by they would only call out to the Master louder and louder. That is absolute determination. They did not stop until they got what they wanted.

So often, we ask for something from the Lord, and after a while, when nothing happens, we stop asking. Be determined and make up your mind; only stop once you have received what you’ve asked for.

Determination as the ability to continue trying to do something, although it is very difficult. Remember, determination breaks resistance.

If you are discouraged, remember you are not alone, God is with you. When you feel you cannot make it, you are tired, your breakthrough is just not there yet, remember Psalm 118:5-16(MSG) “Pushed to the wall, I called to GOD; from the wide open spaces, he answered. GOD’s now at my side and I’m not afraid; who would dare lay a hand on me? GOD’s my strong champion; I flick off my enemies like flies. Far better to take refuge in GOD than trust in people; Far better to take refuge in GOD than trust in celebrities. Hemmed in by barbarians, in GOD’s name I rubbed their faces in the dirt; Hemmed in and with no way out, in GOD’s name I rubbed their faces in the dirt; Like swarming bees, like wild prairie fire, they hemmed me in; in GOD’s name I rubbed their faces in the dirt. I was right on the cliff-edge, ready to fall, when GOD grabbed and held me. GOD’s my strength, he’s also my song, and now he’s my salvation. Hear the shouts, hear the triumph songs in the camp of the saved? “The hand of GOD has turned the tide! The hand of GOD is raised in victory! The hand of GOD has turned the tide!”

Determination is what motivates us to improve ourselves, make positive changes in our lives, and increase our chances of success. It enables us to build dreams, live healthier lives, and strengthen our relationships with others. Determination inspires us to dream bigger and achieve more for ourselves.
