16 March 2022 – A Breakthrough Prayer

Is different from a normal prayer. Breakthrough prayers are for when you have a crisis in your life that is uncontrollable. It is when everything is going wrong and you can do nothing about it. It is unmanageable and uncontrollable.

In 2 Chronicles 20 Jehoshaphat is phased with an unmanageable situation.

2 Chronicles 20:1-2(NIV) “After this, the Moabites and Ammonites with some of the Meunites came to wage war against Jehoshaphat. 2 Some people came and told, “A vast army is coming against you from Edom, from the other side of the Dead Sea. It is already in En Gedi. Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the Lord, and he proclaimed a fast for all Judah. 4 The people of Judah came together to seek help from the Lord; indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek him.” 5 Jehoshaphat stood before the community of Judah and Jerusalem in front of the new courtyard at the Temple of the Lord. 6 He prayed, “O Lord, God of our ancestors, you alone are the God who is in heaven. You are ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are powerful and mighty; no one can stand against you!

Jehoshaphat did 3 things: He prayed privately – He resolved to seek the Lord. – His first choice. He got others to pray – Judah came together to seek help from the Lord. He prayed publicly.
What to do when you are in a crisis?

Focus on God not the problem.

Remind yourself of God’s greatness. – The bigger God gets in your mind, the smaller the problem becomes. 2 Chronicles 20:6 (NASB95) and he said, “O Lord, the God of our fathers, are You not God in the heavens? And are You not ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in Your hand so that no one can stand against You.

Remind yourself of God’s Power. – 2 Chronicles 20:7 (The Voice) O our True God, You demonstrated that power when You exiled inhabitants of this land for Your people, Israel, and gave it to Your friend Abraham’s children forever. Please demonstrate it again, now, as we are attacked.

Remind God of his promises – God loves to be reminded of his promises. Isaiah 62:6 (AMPC) “Put the Lord in remembrance of His promises, keep not silence”

Psalm 91:4b (NLT) “His faithful promises are your armour and protection.

Ask God for a breakthrough – 2 Chronicles 20:12 (NLT) “O our God, won’t you stop them? We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us. We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help.”
