16 May 2021 – God can change little into much

God can change little into much. If we don’t limit God and just believe Him, He will take what little we have and multiply it. He will multiply our little and abundantly meet our need.

In 1 Kings 17:12 (MSG) the widow said to Elijah, “I swear, as surely as your God lives, I don’t have so much as a biscuit. I have a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a bottle; you found me scratching together just enough firewood to make a last meal for my son and me. After we eat it, we’ll die.”

The widow said, ”I don’t have so much”. Her focus was on the little that was left. The prophet of God said something strange, “Don’t worry about a thing”. This must have been overwhelming to the widow. All that she could see, was the little that she had left. She focused on her lack and limitations. Quite interesting, according to her, once she used the little that was left, she and her son, would have died. The little that was left, would have in anyway lead to their death.

1 Kings 17:13 Elijah said to her, “Don’t worry about a thing. Go ahead and do what you’ve said. But first make a small biscuit for me and bring it back here. Then go ahead and make a meal from what’s left for you and your son. This is the word of the God of Israel: ‘The jar of flour will not run out and the bottle of oil will not become empty before God sends rain on the land and ends this drought.’”

This widow, at the end of her rope, chose to make the prophet his requested biscuit. What would you have done? If we’re honest with ourselves, many of us would have kept the ingredients to ourselves. By acting in faith, the widow not only made Elijah a biscuit, but she made a biscuit for her and her son, and she was able to make many meals for all of them because the flour and oil didn’t run out.

1 Kings 17: 15 “And she went right off and did it, did just as Elijah asked. And it turned out as he said—daily food for her and her family. The jar of meal didn’t run out and the bottle of oil didn’t become empty: God’s promise fulfilled to the letter, exactly as Elijah had delivered it!”

Zechariah 4:10 (NLT) “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin”

John 6:9 (MSG) “There’s a little boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish. But that’s a drop in the bucket for a crowd like this. 11 They sat down, about five thousand of them. Then Jesus took the bread and, having given thanks, gave it to those who were seated. He did the same with the fish. All ate as much as they wanted.”

It is amazing what happens to little in the Master’s hand. He only needs little (a drop) to feed a crowd of five thousand.

Let us place our faith in God. He will multiply the little that we have.
