16 May 2024 – Psalm 16

Keep me safe, O God

Psalm 16:1(NLT) Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge.
The plea for God to protect him, is common for David throughout the Psalms.

Psalm 17:8(NLT) Guard me as you would guard your own eyes. Hide me in the shadow of your wings.

Psalm 25:20(NLT) Protect me! Rescue my life from them! Do not let me be disgraced, for in you I take refuge.

Psalm 86:2(NLT) Protect me, for I am devoted to you. Save me, for I serve you and trust you. You are my God.

Psalm 141:9(NLT) Keep me from the traps they have set for me, from the snares of those who do wrong.

David trusts in God as Keeper and recognises God as the only one able to keep him from harm. Psalm 16:1 reminds us that when the world is bombarding us from different directions, know that we can find refuge in God.

“To look to God and say, “Preserve me.” Help me to persevere. Keep me. Keep me close to you.

And keep me walking with you. Preserve my strength, preserve my joy, preserve the peace that I know you desire for me, preserve me for in you O God, I take refuge. What a picture. When the world is bombarding you from different directions, to know that you can find refuge in God. In God, that he’s your refuge.” – David Platt

Psalm 46:1(AMP) God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable], A very present and well-proved help in trouble.

Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge – “This was a most powerful plea, for to trust

God is the highest honour we can do him, it is to set the crown upon his head.” – John Trapp 15
