Overcoming the spiritual battle

We can do nothing without Him; we must abide in Him.

Joshua 1:9 (NKJV) “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

In order to be strong in the Lord, we must first realise that we are not sufficient on our own to battle.

Ephesians 6:12 (NLT) “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”

1 Peter 5:6-7 (NKJV) “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you”

Faith is required to engage the Lord in our battle. We must call on Him when we put on the armour that He provides for the battle.

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

We must take up the pieces of God’s divine armour.

Ephesians 6:13 (NKJV) “Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

The enemy seeks to destroy us.

John 10:10 (NKJV) “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

The Lord already defeated our enemy with the death and resurrection of Jesus, and has given us weapons for warfare.

2 Corinthians 10:4 (NKJV) “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds”

We are not fighting for our victory, we are fighting from His victory!

2 Chronicles 20:15b (NKJV) “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”

Habakkuk 3:17-19 (NIV) “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Saviour. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights. (Amen)”
