17 December 1 Corinthians 8

The person who loves God is the one whom God recognises

1 Corinthians 8:3(AMPC) But if one loves God truly [with affectionate reverence, prompt obedience, and grateful recognition of His blessing], he is known by God [recognized as worthy of His intimacy and love, and he is owned by Him].

It is important to remember that our love for God should not be motivated solely by what we expect to receive from Him, but rather by a genuine desire to know, worship, and obey Him. God’s response to our love ultimately expresses His grace, mercy, and faithfulness.

The response of God to those who love Him is characterised by His love, favour, and blessings.

  1. Relationship: God desires a personal relationship with those who love Him. When we love God, we draw closer to Him, and He responds that love by revealing Himself to us and being intimately involved in our lives.

1 Corinthians 2:9(NIV) However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’β€”the things God has prepared for those who love him.

Proverbs 8:17(NKJV) I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me.

Romans 8:28(NIV) And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

  1. Blessings: God often pours out blessings upon those who love Him. These blessings can include spiritual blessings, such as peace, joy, and spiritual growth, as well as material and practical blessings, such as provision, protection, and guidance.

Deuteronomy 7:9(NIV) Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.

Psalm 91:14-15(NIV) “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.

  1. Strength in Trials: God strengthens and supports those who love Him in times of difficulty. He provides comfort, peace, and assurance of His presence, helping them endure trials and overcome obstacles.

Psalm 34:17-18(NIV) The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Isaiah 41:10(NIV) So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

I conclude with, Deuteronomy 6:5(NIV) Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

This commandment emphasises the wholehearted love and devotion we should have for God, placing Him above all else. Placing God above all means recognising His authority, seeking His will, and aligning our lives with His purposes. It involves surrendering our desires, ambitions, and priorities to Him, allowing Him to guide and direct every area of our lives.
