What does “God is omnipresent” mean? It means that God is present everywhere. Other words with the prefix omni- that describe God is omnipotent, which means all-powerful and omniscient which means all-knowing.
Scripture clearly shows God is omnipresent, everywhere, without exception, in every place at every and all time. He is everywhere at once.
Jeremiah 23:23–24 (NASB95) “Am I a God who is near,” declares the LORD, “And not a God far off? Can a man hide himself in hiding places So I do not see him?” declares the LORD. “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the LORD.
Psalm 113:4-6 (NLT) For the LORD is high above the nations; his glory is higher than the heavens. Who can be compared with the LORD our God, who is enthroned on high? He stoops to look down on heaven and on earth.
Psalm 139:7-10 (NLT) I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.
God’s presence can’t be eluded through or by space, speed, darkness. In other words, nothing in the universe can hide a person from God.
Proverbs 15:3 (NLT) The LORD is watching everywhere, keeping his eye on both the evil and the good.
There is no place where God does not exist. God is everywhere and can appear in any form He chooses, to anyone He chooses. Because God is omnipresent, we are never alone. Jesus Christ promises to be with us always and everywhere.
Matthew 28:18-20 (AMP) Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority (all power of absolute rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always [remaining with you perpetually—regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age.”
God’s omnipresence is an essential characteristic of God.
Exodus 3:14-15 (NLT) God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.” God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: Yahweh, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.
God has a general desire to be close to us.
Acts 17:27 (NLT) “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us.
Nobody can hide from God.
Amos 9:2-3 (NKJV) “Though they dig into hell, From there My hand shall take them; Though they climb up to heaven, From there I will bring them down; And though they hide themselves on top of Carmel, From there I will search and take them; Though they hide from My sight at the bottom of the sea, From there I will command the serpent, and it shall bite them.
God is everywhere and presents a constant source of comfort to us. Wherever we may go, we will find ourselves in the protection of God’s presence. There is no place where we can get away from God’s reach. His presence may be experienced at any time and in any place. God promised that He is with us always.
Isaiah 43:2 (NKJV) When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
