The Lord confirms His word with signs
Mark 16:19-20(NLT) When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. And the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked through them, confirming what they said by many miraculous signs.According to Jesus, these miraculous signs are supposed to follow those who believe. Since you and I believe that means these signs are supposed to follow you and me!The word signs, comes from the Greek word semeion, which describes the official written notice that announces the final verdict of a court. It also described the signature or seal applied to a document to guarantee its authenticity and a sign marking key city locations. These signs are the signature of God — the official declaration that they were sent. For unbelievers, these signs would authenticate the fact that this was no manmade message but a message straight from God Himself. The Lord said that these signs would follow those who believe. The word follow, is the Greek word parakoloutheo, from the two words para and akoloutheo. The word para means alongside, as to be near or in proximity. The word akoloutheo means to follow or to go somewhere with a person, as to accompany him on a trip. When the word para and akoloutheo are joined to form one word, as in this verse, it means to tirelessly accompany someone; to constantly be at the side of an individual; to always be in close proximity with a person, like a faithful companion who is always at one’s side.Mark 16:17a(VOICE) And these signs will follow those who believe:These signs shall follow them that are constantly believing.… If we do not believe for these signs to be manifested, or expect them to follow, they probably won’t. Like everything else in the Kingdom of God, signs and wonders are activated by faith.Jeremiah 1:11-12(AMP) The word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” And I said, “I see the branch of an almond tree.” Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am [actively] watching over My word to fulfill it.”The Lord is watching over His Word to perform it. God’s Word is not like the words of man, which fall to the ground. God’s Word is active, alive and full of power.Hebrews 4:12(AMP) For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.Isaiah 55:10-11(Voice) For as rain and snow can’t go back once they’ve fallen, but soak into the ground And nourish the plants that grow, providing seed to the farmer and bread for the hungry, So it is when I declare something. My word will go out and not return to Me empty, But it will do what I wanted; it will accomplish what I determined. If God’s Word is planted in your heart, you’ll receive it. It doesn’t matter what you feel — God’s Word will produce a miracle.
