18 May 2022 – We are more than conquerors

Romans 8:37-39 (NIV) 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Paul says “in all these things” we are more than conquerors. “In all these things” means there are no exceptions. In all these things we are not just conquerors; we are “more than conquerors.” We experience complete and total victory in Christ.

To be “more than a conqueror” means we not only achieve victory, but we are overwhelmingly victorious. If the final score of rugby game is 132–3, we know that the opposition put up a fight, but they were no match. The win was beyond the scope of a regular victory.

The words “more than” literally means over, above, and beyond. It is something that is way beyond measure. We are over, above and beyond-conquerors!

The word “conqueror” describes an overcomer, a conqueror, champion, victor, or master. It is an overwhelming, prevailing force. However, the word “conqueror” alone wasn’t strong enough to make Paul’s point, so he joined the words “more than” and “conqueror” together to make his point even stronger!

When you put these two words together, it declares that in Jesus Christ, you are an overwhelming conqueror or an enormous overcomer.

There are many examples of God bringing miraculous victory to His people. We see that God cautioned His people not to be afraid, that He would fight their battles for them.

Exodus 14:14 (ESV) “The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

Jeremiah 1:19 (ESV) “They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you, for I am with you, declares the Lord, to deliver you.”

Exodus 15:6″Your right hand, O LORD, has become glorious in power; Your right hand, O LORD, has dashed the enemy in pieces.

Being more than a conqueror means that we are tapping into the supernatural power of God.

1 John 5:4 (KJV) – For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, our faith.

1 John 4:4 ESV “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world”

Remember Romans 8:37 (NIRV) “In all these things we are more than winners!”
