18 September 2021 – Talk the Talk

When we understand the power of words and realise that we can choose what we think and speak, our lives can be transformed.

Proverbs 15:23 (AMPC) A man has joy in making an apt answer, and a word spoken at the right moment–how good it is!

Proverbs 13:3 (ESV) “Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.”

Ephesians 4:29 (ESV) “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”

Colossians 4:6 (ESV) “Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”

Psalm 141:3 (ESV) “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!”

Proverbs 18:21 (ESV) “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”

Matthew 12:36-37 (NIV) “But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

“Revolutions start with language.” The language we use as leader creates the culture, the mindset, and the foundation for our behaviours. Language embeds itself in our teams and comes to fruition (whether we like it or not). Language leads to action, so it is crucial to respect it, craft it and use it strategically to build our teams. Creating a common language is critical to crafting an effective culture. It is the tool that reinforces belief, builds a common purpose, and creates the metaphors that inspire a team to become more than the members thought they could be”. – Kevin Roberts

Talking the talk can move us from isolation to community, from selfishness to selflessness, from mediocrity to excellence.

Psalm 89:34 ESV “I will not violate my covenant or alter the word that went forth from my lips.”
