Psalm 110:1(MSG) The word of God to my Lord: “Sit alongside me here on my throne until I make your enemies a stool for your feet.”
Jesus claims this title for Himself. The New Testament records Jesus’ references to this passage in multiple places.
Matthew 22:44(ESV) “The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet’”?
Mark 12:35–37(ESV) And as Jesus taught in the temple, he said, “How can the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David? David himself, in the Holy Spirit, declared, “‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet until I put your enemies under your feet”’
God, then, will put all the enemies of Jesus under his feet. Hebrews 1:13(AMP) But to which of the angels has the Father ever said, “SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND [together with me in royal dignity], UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET [in triumphant conquest]”?
After Jesus conquered sin and death, and rose from the dead, He returned to the Father. And the Father said, Luke 20:42-44(AMP) For David himself says in the book of Psalms, ‘THE LORD (the Father) SAID TO MY LORD (the Son, the Messiah), “SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET.”’ So David calls Him (the Son) ‘Lord,’ and how then is He David’s son?”
Seek rest before God is done with the job, that is real faith. God does not say, ‘Wait until all your enemies have been destroyed, until every problem in your life has been resolved, then you can rest.’ He says, ‘Rest first until I make all your enemies your footstool.’
Psalm 110:2(AMP) The LORD will send the scepter of Your strength from Zion, saying, “Rule in the midst of Your enemies.”
Romans 12:19(MSG) Don’t insist on getting even; that’s not for you to do. “I’ll do the judging,” says God. “I’ll take care of it.”
Psalm 23(MSG) GOD, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing. You have bedded me down in lush meadows, you find me quiet pools to drink from. True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction. Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I’m not afraid when you walk at my side. Your trusty shepherd’s crook makes me feel secure. You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing. Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. I’m back home in the house of GOD for the rest of my life.
Exodus 33:14(AMP) And the LORD said, “My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest [by bringing you and the people into the promised land].”
I conclude with: “If God be our God, He will give us peace in trouble. When there is a storm without, He will make peace within. The world can create trouble in peace, but God can create peace in trouble.” – Thomas Watson
