19 December 1 Corinthians 10

Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31(NLT) So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Eating and drinking to the glory of God means recognising that even these everyday activities, can be transformed into acts of worship and service. Here are a few ways in which you can approach eating and drinking with the intention of glorifying God:

  1. Gratitude – Express gratitude to God for the provision of food and drink. Recognise that every meal is a gift from God and an opportunity to thank Him for His blessings.

1 Timothy 4:4-5(ESV) For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.

Psalm 136:1(NIV) Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever.

  1. Moderation and self-control – Exercise self-control and moderation in your eating and drinking habits. Avoid gluttony, excess, or indulgence, as they can be contrary to living a life that honours God.

Proverbs 23:20-21(ESV) Be not among drunkards or among gluttonous eaters of meat, for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and slumber will clothe them with rags.

  1. Health and stewardship – Take care of your body, which is a temple of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20(ESV) Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

  1. Fellowship and hospitality – Share meals with others in a spirit of fellowship and hospitality. Eating together can create opportunities for building relationships, showing love, and extending hospitality to others. It is a chance to demonstrate the love of Christ and build community.

Acts 2:46(ESV) And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,

Romans 12:13(ESV) Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.

  1. Using food for service – Use food and drink to serve others. This can include sharing meals with the hungry, supporting charitable causes that address food insecurity, or using your resources to help those in need.

Matthew 25:35(ESV) For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,

Galatians 6:10:(ESV) So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Everything you do should be done with the intention of bringing honour and glory to God.
To do something for the glory of God means to do it with the right motives, seeking to please God rather than seeking self-gratification or recognition. It involves recognising that your life is not our own, but belongs to God, and therefore, your choices and actions should reflect your commitment to Him.

Ultimately, doing everything for the glory of God is about living a life that is centered on Him, acknowledging His sovereignty, and seeking to honour Him in all that you do.
