A few years ago (2020) I lost my dearest sister at the age of 40. We had a very close relationship. Her death came so suddenly. I was confronted immediately. How was this possible, how could this happen, it was so sudden without any warning? I had so many questions. She had her whole life ahead of her, her children are so young still. As I was trying to figure out what the reason could possibly be, I came to one conclusion: we are created for eternity. When life doesn’t make sense remember: you were created for eternity.
*1 Samuel 20:3(NLT) But I swear to you that I am only a step away from death! I swear it by the Lord and by your own soul!_
James 4:14(NIV) Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
Ecclesiastes 7:2-4(NLT) Better to spend your time at funerals than at parties. After all, everyone dies – so the living should take this to heart.
These are very strong words. It does not make sense. But the Bible highlights a profound truth here. Why is death so important? Death forces us to a point where we stop, pause and think about life. The living should take this to heart.
Ecclesiastes 7:2-4(NLT) Better to spend your time at funerals than at parties. After all, everyone dies—so the living should take this to heart. Sorrow is better than laughter, for sadness has a refining influence on us. A wise person thinks a lot about death, while a fool thinks only about having a good time.
Why is it better to go to a funeral instead of a feast? Because here, in this life, death is our final destiny. It is probably the most important event in our life, and we need to prepare for it.
If we are wise, we will live each day with clarity and purpose. We will live every day to the fullest, and ultimately, a complete and meaningful life, where God is, without a doubt, at the centre of our lives.
Proverbs 3:6(LB) In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.
“In God’s eyes, the greatest heroes of the faith are not those who achieved prosperity, success and power in this life, but those who treat this life as a temporary assignment and serve faithfully, expecting their promised reward in eternity.” – Rick Warren
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2(ESV) For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born.
John 8:51-52(ESV) Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death…. “If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.”
Psalm 116:15(AMP) Precious [and of great consequence] in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His godly ones [so He watches over them].
