Throughout the Bible, disobedience had a direct impact on the life of people.
Moses missed the Promised land; he did not enter the plan that God had for him.
Numbers 20:8-12 (NIV) “Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink.” So Moses took the staff from the LORD’s presence, just as he commanded him. He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?” Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank. But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.”
Saul lost his kingship due to disobedience to God – 1 Samuel 15:22-23 (MSG) “Then Samuel said, Do you think all God wants are sacrifices — empty rituals just for show? He wants you to listen to him! Plain listening is the thing, not staging a lavish religious production. Not doing what God tells you is far worse than fooling around in the occult. Getting self-important around God is far worse than making deals with your dead ancestors. Because you said No to God’s command, he says No to your kingship.”
Being disobedient to God makes that He does not hear us – Proverbs 1:24-28 (NLT) “I called you so often, but you wouldn’t come. I reached out to you, but you paid no attention. You ignored my advice and rejected the correction I offered. So I will laugh when you are in trouble! I will mock you when disaster overtakes you— when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster engulfs you like a cyclone, and anguish and distress overwhelm you. When they cry for help, I will not answer. Though they anxiously search for me, they will not find me.”
Make a choice today to obey God
Proverbs 1:33 (NLT) But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.
Obedience activates God’s power. The scene was the Sea of Galilee. Simon and his crew had been out fishing all through the night but hadn’t caught anything. Jesus came up and told the fishermen to go out to where it was deeper and throw down their nets. Simon’s response was very simply: “…if you say so.”
Luke 5:5 (NLT) “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.”
Because of his obedience, they hauled in the catch of a lifetime—to the point that two boats were so full of fish that they nearly sank. God has power just waiting for us, but it is unleashed and activated when we are willing to show our obedience. “If you say so.”
