Make God the Centre of your new year
The last few days we have focused on purpose, discipline and incremental growth. Most people do not succeed in their new year’s resolutions because that are not driven by purpose, are not disciplined to follow through and lastly don’t realise that constantly working on an activity towards achieving their goal will result into a marginal gain.
Over the next few days, we are going to focus on the on the new year’s goals that the most successful people make every year. Highly successful people measure themselves on seven key elements, Health, Family, Social, Financial, Work, Civic and Spiritual. They try to maintain a balance between these elements to live a healthy and fulfilling life.
Before looking at what these are, it is important to understand that God should be the centre of all that we do
.
Colossians 1.17-18 (ESV) And he [Jesus] is before all things, and in him all things hold together. … He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be pre-eminent,”
The secret of a happy life is giving God the first part of your day, the first priority to every decision, and the first place in your heart.
“Placing Him first in your life should be your daily goal, the main pursuit in the midst of all your other pursuits.” Paul Chappell
1 Corinthians 10:31 (NKJV) “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
John 15:5(NKJV) “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”
Putting God first in your life means to make God the number one priority of your existence on the earth. What does it mean to put God first in your life?
We are to acknowledge God in all our ways. This means that every action we take and decision we make should be done with God at the centre. God must hold the place of highest importance, and the way we live should reflect this reality.
How to put God first every day?
Read the Bible – By reading the Bible each day and seeking to do what it says, we put God first in our lives.
Pray – In response to our prayers, God works in our lives. He does great things and helps us to live in a way that pleases and honours Him.
Community – Being a Christian isn’t just about our personal walk with the Lord. Rather, we are called to live in community with other Christians.
The more we read the Bible, pray, and fellowship with others, the more success we’ll have in making God our top priority.
