Against every accusation
Revelation 12:10-12(TLB) Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens, “It has happened at last! God’s salvation and the power and the rule, and the authority of his Christ are finally here; for the Accuser of our brothers has been thrown down from heaven onto earth—he accused them day and night before our God. They defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony; for they did not love their lives but laid them down for him. Rejoice, O heavens! You citizens of heaven, rejoice! Be glad! But woe to you people of the world, for the devil has come down to you in great anger, knowing that he has little time.”
One of our spiritual enemy’s names is the Accuser, also identified in the Bible as Satan. He is not a divine being nor an equal to God, but he is your adversary.
2 Corinthians 2:11(NLT) so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.
We could rephrase the essence of this verse as: ‘If we are ignorant of Satan’s tactics, he will gain the upper hand.’
Satan specialises in accusation. He constantly reminds us of our regrettable past—every sin, every mistake. He points out our present flaws and undermines our spiritual confidence. He tells us we’re terrible Christians, full of sin and wickedness, and that we can never please God.
Zechariah 3:1(NLT) Then the angel showed me Jeshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD. The Accuser, Satan, was there at the angel’s right hand, making accusations against Jeshua.
If we feel weighed down by these accusations, remember: if we confess and turn away from our sins, we are forgiven. As stated in Romans 8:1(NKJV) There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
1 John 2:1(NLT) My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.
Jesus is our advocate, our spiritual attorney who pleads our case before God. Satan may attempt to tarnish our reputation before God, but God is committed to our sanctification.
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24(NLT) Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. God will make this happen, for He who calls you is faithful.
Romans 8:33–34(ESV) Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Christ’s death, resurrection, and ongoing intercession offer three layers of assurance against Satan’s accusations.
Nothing can separate us from Christ’s love—not tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, danger, or even death. Certainly not the accusations of a devil destined for destruction. Christ has taken our condemnation and has given us His righteousness. As long as He lives and reigns, no accuser can sever us from Him.
I conclude with Romans 8:35(NLT) Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean He no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?
