2 November 2023 – Seek God first in all things

Matthew 6:33(NLT) Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Matthew 6:21(NKJV) For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Whatever we spend most of our time, effort, breath, and resources on is what we ultimately worship.

John Piper says it this way: “…instead of being anxious, ‘Seek first God’s kingdom.’ In other words, when you think about your life or your food or your clothes or your spouse or your job or your mission, don’t fret about them. Instead, make God the king in that affair and in that moment, and hand over the situation to his kingly power and do his righteous will with the confidence that he will work for you and meet all your needs. To seek the kingship of God first in every affair and every moment of life is a thrilling way to live. It’s full of freedom and peace and joy and adventure – and hardship, and it’s worth it all. If you believe in the kingship of your heavenly Father, you do not need to be anxious about anything.”

Psalm 37:5(NLT) Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you.

Proverbs 3:5-6(ESV) Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Psalm 62:8(ESV) Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.

1 Chronicles 22:19(ESV) Now set your mind and heart to seek the LORD your God.

Colossians 3:1–2(ESV) If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

The great promise to those who seek the Lord is that He will be found.
1 Chronicles 28:9b(NKJV) If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.

When He is found, there is great reward. Hebrews 11:6(NKJV) But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

God himself is our greatest reward. When we have Him, we have everything.
Psalm 105:4(NLT) Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him.
