20 February 2021 – Jesus, Dayspring from High

Luke 1:78 (NKJV) “Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us”

The Greek word here translated “dayspring” is so translated only this one time in the New Testament, word meaning “dawn” or “morning.”

The word Dayspring refers to the Son of God who would rise like the sun to bring light to all men. The word brings to mind new beginnings, a new day, a fresh start. That’s what Jesus brought with Him – a new day, a new beginning, the dawn of something great.

Jesus was and is the hope of mankind. He is the Light of this world – the Dayspring – the Sunrise from on high

Malachi 4:2 (NKJV) But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves.

John 1:5-9 (NKJV) “And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.

In the midst of darkness, God sent Jesus, the Dayspring, to give light to them that sit in darkness.

Matthew 4:16 (NIV) “the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.”

Isaiah 9:2 (NIV) “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.”

2 Peter 1:19 (NLT) “Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place—until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts.”

Then a lamp will shine in a dark place and we will experience a spiritual sunrise in our hearts. The “morning star” will arise in our hearts when you take heed to the word of God.

Psalm 80:3 (NLT) “Turn us again to yourself, O God. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved.”

Jesus is the dawn of the morning, Jesus is the daybreak. As the Dayspring from on high, Jesus gives light to those who sit in the darkness. Jesus gives light to those who sit in the shadow of death. And Jesus guides His children’s feet into the way of peace.
