Blessing 4: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb
Revelation 19:9 (AMP) Then the angel said to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’” And he said to me [further], “These are the true and exact words of God.”
The Bible refers to Jesus as the groom and the church as His bride. The marriage supper of the Lamb will occur in heaven, and God’s followers from all the ages will be there to celebrate.
Matthew 8:11 (NLT) And I tell you this, that many Gentiles will come from all over the world—from east and west—and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the feast in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Luke 13:28-29 (NLT) “There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, for you will see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in the Kingdom of God, but you will be thrown out. And people will come from all over the world—from east and west, north and south—to take their places in the Kingdom of God.
The marriage supper of the Lamb is a symbolic representation of the joyful, intimate, and eternal fellowship between Jesus Christ (the Lamb of God) and His bride (the Church). The marriage supper of the Lamb marks the end of the long engagement period between Jesus Christ and the Church and the beginning of an eternal, unbroken fellowship of love. John refers to Christ as the Lamb who was slain, who shed His blood, and who overcame death and the devil. Jesus is the victorious Lamb of God who conquers through self-sacrifice.
Revelation 19:8 (AMP) She has been permitted to dress in fine linen, dazzling white and clean—for the fine linen signifies the righteous acts of the saints [the ethical conduct, personal integrity, moral courage, and godly character of believers].
Another interesting analogy in this passage includes the fine linen in which the Bride (believers in Christ) is clothed. Verse 8 called this fine linen the righteous act of the saints. Though salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ the good deeds of believers are called the clothing of fine linen, bright and pure.
Ephesians 2:8–9 (ESV) For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
John 14:6 (ESV) Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Those who will qualify for the marriage supper of the Lamb must be those who belong to Christ. The Marriage Supper of the Lamb, like all biblical prophecies, will be fulfilled. Our Lord Jesus Christ will have His last supper with the Church without spots or wrinkles.
