21 December 2022 – Christmas is a reminder of Jesus’s provision for the world’s sins

Christmas is a reminder that through Jesus, the Father made only one provision for the world’s sins. That is why the birth of Jesus is such an important event. There had never been another such birth, and there will never be another one, because of the weight that this birth carried – forgiveness of sins.

Matthew 1:21 (NLT) “And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

The coming of Jesus was on purpose. Man had a problem: sin. It was a problem no prophet or law could resolve until the coming of Jesus Christ. As we celebrate Christ at Christmas, we commemorate the beginning of the end of the biggest problem facing man – sin.

Mark 10:45 (NLT) “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

When Jesus came, He left us with the gift of salvation. His birth is significant because of His death. For thirty-three years, Jesus lived a life free from sin so that He could be the perfect sacrificial lamb for the atonement of our sins. On Calvary, Christ paid the price and overcame death so that we could have victory over sin and condemnation. So, when that precious baby was born and placed in the manger, it wasn’t just another birth. It was the beginning of God’s redemptive plan for humanity. An act He didn’t have to take part in, but He chose to, out of love.

Philippians 2:5-11 (NIV) “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Luke 5:31–32 (NASB95) “And Jesus answered and said to them, “It is not those who are well who need a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”

Jesus is the true solution to our sin problem. John 14:6 (NLT) Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

The love of God surpasses all human knowledge, and it is difficult for any of us to grasp the width and length and height and depth of God’s love for each one of us.

Ephesians 3:17-19 (NLT) Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Every Christmas is a reminder of God’s eternal love for me, for you, and for the whole world. Christmas provides a wonderful opportunity for us to join with God in giving to the world. The most precious gifts we can give to our family, our children, our friends, each other and even those we do not know, our enemies, are the gifts of sharing God’s Gift to us. His Gift was and is the Saviour, His Glory, His Peace, His beloved Son – so that whosoever believes, accepts this Gift shall not perish, but have eternal life.
