22 June 2023 – Tell of the goodness of God

While I was doing some research on zeal, and the meaning of it, as discussed in our devotion yesterday, I stumbled across Psalm 96:2 that says we should tell someone that he saves, every day. It instantly made an impact on me. Read some of the various translations of this verse.

Psalm 96:2 (TLB) Sing out his praises! Bless his name. Each day tell someone that he saves.

Psalm 96:2 (NKJV) Sing to the LORD, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.

Psalm 96:2 (Voice) Sing to the Eternal of all the good things He’s done. Bless His name; broadcast the good news of His salvation each and every day.

Psalm 96:2 (NLV) Sing to the Lord. Honor His name. Make His saving power known from day to day.

In Psalm 71:15-24 we see an excellent example of how David tells of the goodness of God. (GNT) I will tell of your goodness; all day long I will speak of your salvation, though it is more than I can understand. I will go in the strength of the LORD God; I will proclaim your goodness, yours alone. You have taught me ever since I was young, and I still tell of your wonderful acts. Now that I am old and my hair is gray, do not abandon me, O God! Be with me while I proclaim your power and might to all generations to come. Your righteousness, God, reaches the skies. You have done great things; there is no one like you. You have sent troubles and suffering on me, but you will restore my strength; you will keep me from the grave. You will make me greater than ever; you will comfort me again. I will indeed praise you with the harp; I will praise your faithfulness, my God. On my harp I will play hymns to you, the Holy One of Israel. I will shout for joy as I play for you; with my whole being I will sing because you have saved me. I will speak of your righteousness all day long, because those who tried to harm me have been defeated and disgraced.

Psalms 40:9-17 (NCV) I will tell about your goodness in the great meeting of your people. LORD, you know my lips are not silent. I do not hide your goodness in my heart; I speak about your loyalty and salvation. I do not hide your love and truth from the people in the great meeting. LORD, do not hold back your mercy from me; let your love and truth always protect me. Troubles have surrounded me; there are too many to count. My sins have caught me so that I cannot see a way to escape. I have more sins than hairs on my head, and I have lost my courage. Please, LORD, save me. Hurry, LORD, to help me. People are trying to kill me. Shame them and disgrace them. People want to hurt me. Let them run away in disgrace. People are making fun of me. Let them be shamed into silence. But let those who follow you be happy and glad. They love you for saving them. May they always say, “Praise the LORD!” Lord, because I am poor and helpless, please remember me. You are my helper and savior. My God, do not wait.

“[Jesus] plan called for action, and how He expressed it predicted its success. He didn’t say “you might be my witnesses,” or “you could be my witnesses,” or even “you should be my witnesses.” He said “you will be my witnesses.” ― Swindoll Charles R.

I conclude with: “Let others report bad news; we’ll share the good news.” – Woodrow Kroll
