The prophet Jeremiah was not a famous man. When he declared the truth God had given him – that Judah would soon start 70 long years in captivity — the people imprisoned him. Yet in such dire circumstances, Jeremiah learned something profound about prayer. When we call upon the Lord, He listens.
We all know that 911 is a lifeline in America that you can call when you are in trouble. Well the Bible also has a lifeline. It is available 24 hours of the day, 7 days of the week. It is Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV) Call to me and I will answer you . . . This line is never too busy, never off-line or not available. The operator is waiting for your call, to tell you amazing and incredible things that you could never work out on your own. Is this not wonderful to know, that when you don’t know what to do, when you don’t have any answers or need guidance, you can call this number, Jeremiah 3:33.
Jeremiah 33:3 (MSG) “This is GOD’s Message, the God who made earth, made it liveable and lasting, known everywhere as GOD: ‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’
Psalms 91:15 (TPT) I will answer your cry for help every time you pray, and you will feel my presence in your time of trouble. I will deliver you and bring you honor.
The Message puts it this way – Psalms 91:14-16 (MSG) “If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says GOD, “I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me. Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party. I’ll give you a long life, give you a long drink of salvation!”
Psalm 20:1 (NLT) In times of trouble, may the LORD answer your cry.
God knows everything about us. He knows our needs, struggles, and issues, but He wants us to call upon Him. This indicates to Him that we are dependent on Him and can trust on Him in time of trouble. God want us to put our trust in Him. He wants us to rely on Him. He wants us to realise that He is our source of strength.
Hebrews 4:13a (GNT) There is nothing that can be hid from God; everything in all creation is exposed and lies open before his eyes.
Proverbs 2:8 (NIV) for he (God) guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.
Today I conclude with Psalm 9:10 (GNT) Those who know you, LORD, will trust you; you do not abandon anyone who comes to you.
