23 February 2021 – Blessed is he that cometh in the Name of the Lord

Psalm 118:26 (CEB) “The one who enters in the LORD’s name is blessed; we bless all of you from the LORD’s house.”

Mark 11:9 (NKJV) “Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

1 Samuel 17:45 (KJV) “Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.”

Here, David was informing Goliath of the source of his authority and power. When one declares that he comes in the name of the Lord, he also claims that he comes with the power and the authority of his sender. He has the power of God at his disposal.

Colossians 3:17 (NKJV) “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

The practice of calling on the Lord began long ago in Genesis.

Genesis 4:26 (NKJV) “And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enos. Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.”

From the beginning human beings called upon the Lord because they realised, they needed God. To call on the name of the Lord is to approach Him in thanksgiving, worship, and petition, and in so doing proclaim the name of God.

God promises to save those who, in faith, call upon His name: Romans 10:13 (NKJV) “For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Calling on the name of the Lord indicates personal interaction and relationship. When we call upon the name of the Lord, as a form of worship, we recognize our dependence upon Him.

The way to call on the Lord is to first open your heart to Him in a pure way. – 2 Timothy 2:22b (NLT) “Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.”

Psalm 88:9 (NKJV) “My eye wastes away because of affliction. Lord, I have called daily upon You; I have stretched out my hands to You.”

We call on the Lord’s name because we love Him. Our calling on Him helps us turn our heart to Him.
