Genesis 1:1(NIV) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
In the beginning God created all things out of nothing. Creator is the first name God reveals to us.
Our God brought to life all things out of nothing. That is how powerful He is. In fact, when this text was originally written in Hebrew, the name given to God in Genesis is Elohim. Translated it means Strong One. All that God created shows how awesome He is.
John 1:3(ESV) All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. He is THE Creator, because it is through him that all things were made; without him absolutely nothing was made that has been made.
Psalm 19:1(ESV) The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Psalm 139:14(NIV) I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Isaiah 40:28(KJV) Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard That the everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding.
Psalm 51:10(ESV) Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
In creation, we see God’s lordship on display in his control over all things, His authority over all the universe, and His presence in every part of creation.
The term creation applies to both God’s original act of bringing being out of nothing and God’s subsequent actions bringing structure to created being. These two phases are sometimes called original and subsequent creation. A good definition of creation, therefore, will embrace both – Creation is an act of God alone, by which, for His own glory, He brings into existence everything in the universe, things that had no existence prior to His creative word.
It also establishes His authority, His right to tell all creatures what to do. Creation is also the basis of God’s presence in all places of the universe. God’s creation, therefore, is a universal revelation of His lordship.
Nehemiah 9:6(ESV) You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you.
The purpose of creation is for the glory and good pleasure of God. It is to manifest His greatness and receive from us the honour and worship that is due Him. God is worthy. Since He is most beautiful and valuable of all things, it is right for Him to give us that gift of worshiping and enjoying Him.
