23 July 2023 – Responsibility: What is the difference between responsibility and accountability?

“Responsibility is the ability to respond to situations and events in our lives, as well as to perform or complete assigned tasks. Accountability is the recognition and acknowledgement of our responsibilities and being answerable for the outcomes of our actions, decisions, and mistakes.” – article by Irina Sergeeva on https://www.betterup.com/blog

“Accountability breeds response-ability.” – Stephen Covey

“It is easy to dodge our responsibilities, but we cannot dodge the consequences of dodging our responsibilities.” – Josiah Stamp

Our Godly Responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for your life, Galatians 6:5-10 (MSG) Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life. Be very sure now, you who have been trained to a self-sufficient maturity, that you enter into a generous common life with those who have trained you, sharing all the good things that you have and experience. Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others – ignoring God! – harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life. So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.
  • Take responsibility to rule over the earth, Genesis 1:26-28(AMP) Then God said, “Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over everything that creeps and crawls on the earth.” So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them. And God blessed them [granting them certain authority] and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subjugate it [putting it under your power]; and rule over (dominate) the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living thing that moves upon the earth.” Genesis 2:15(AMP) So the LORD God took the man [He had made] and settled him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.
  • Take care of the house of God, Haggai 1:7-8(AMP) Thus says the LORD of hosts, “Consider your ways and thoughtfully reflect on your conduct! Go up to the hill country, bring lumber and rebuild My house (temple), that I may be pleased with it and be glorified,” says the LORD [accepting it as done for My glory].

Malachi 3:10-12(AMP) “Bring all the tithes (the tenth) into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the LORD of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you [so great] a blessing until there is no more room to receive it. Then I will rebuke the devourer (insects, plague) for your sake and he will not destroy the fruits of the ground, nor will your vine in the field drop its grapes [before harvest],” says the LORD of hosts. “All nations shall call you happy and blessed, for you shall be a land of delight,” says the LORD of hosts.

  • Love one another, John 13:34(AMP) I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too are to love one another.

I conclude with these words from Hubert Selby Jr: “Eventually we all have to accept full and total responsibility for our actions, everything we have done, and have not done.”
