Shield of faith

Ephesians 6:16 (NLT) “In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. “

You take up the shield of faith when you choose to trust in God more than anything else.

Hebrews 11:6 (NIV) “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

It is our faith, not needs, that moves God.

Faith is based on the truth and is real – Hebrews 11:1 (AMP) “Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].”

The Shield of Faith:

The first line of defence – To get to any other piece of the armour, or to get to the soldier, the enemy had to get past the shield first. The shield not only protected the body of the soldier, but the other pieces of armour as well. It protected everything. The shields were excellent for protecting the soldiers from the arrows and spears from the enemy.

Proverbs 30:5 (AMP) “Every word of God is tested and refined [like silver]; He is a shield to those who trust and take refuge in Him.”

A shield guards – Psalm 18:2 (GNTA) “The Lord is my protector; he is my strong fortress. My God is my protection, and with him I am safe. He protects me like a shield; he defends me and keeps me safe.”

God, as our shield, protects us from all harm. Living by faith in the promises of God eventually allows you to walk by faith in what God has said He will do, for you know that God is on your side and God will do what He has said.

A shield deflects – Faith in God and His promises causes Satan’s flaming arrows to bounce off, not able to penetrate our mind and soul. Faith in the promises of God keeps us bold and strong in the face of sin, temptation, and doubt. This is why faith is so important to our life. Believing what God has said is the shield that protects us from the darts of the devil which question and challenge what God has said.

Genesis 15:1 (KJV) After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

1 John 5:4 (NKJV) “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
