Seeking God

Psalm 105:4 (ESV) “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!”

What does it mean to seek? It is setting our mind and heart on God. It is the conscious focusing of our mind’s attention and our heart’s affection on God.

1 Chronicles 22:19 (ESV) “Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God.”

Colossians 3:1–2 (ESV) “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”

The great promise to those who seek the Lord is that he will be found.

1 Chronicles 28:9 (ESV) “And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you,”

Deuteronomy 4:29 (NASB) “But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul.”

Hebrews 11:6 (ESV) “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”

There is a condition

Jeremiah 29:12-14 (NLT) “Then you will call to me. You will come and pray to me, and I will answer you. 13 You will seek me, and you will find me because you will seek me with all your heart. 14 Yes, I say, you will find me, and I will restore you to your land.?

When you seek God with all your heart, then you will find Him. We must seek the Lord. That is the condition of finding him. Seek God with all your heart means: to seek the face of God, to desire, examine or explore, to seek earnestly, to diligently search for, wish for, to crave, to investigate or to pursue. To seek God with all your heart is all about having a love and a passion for God, more than anything else.

The outcome of seeking God – Favour

Exodus 33:12-13 (NASB) Then Moses said to the LORD, “See, You say to me, ‘Bring up this people!’ But You Yourself have not let me know whom You will send with me. Moreover, You have said, ‘I have known you by name, and you have also found favour in My sight.’ Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found favour in Your sight, let me know Your ways that I may know You, so that I may find favour in Your sight.”

Amos 5:6 (NASB) “Seek the LORD that you may live.”
