The Holy Spirit you received from Him remains in you
1 John 2:27(NLT) But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true—it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.
The Amplified says in 1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing [the special gift, the preparation] which you received from Him remains [permanently] in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But just as His anointing teaches you [giving you insight through the presence of the Holy Spirit] about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as His anointing has taught you, you must remain in Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him].
What is the anointing that John talks about? The anointing John talks about remains in us and teaches (us) about all things. The anointing set us apart by God for a specific purpose or ministry. In the Old Testament, kings, priests, and prophets were anointed with oil as a symbolic act of their consecration to God’s service.
In the New Testament, particularly in the writings of John, the anointing is often associated with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is given to Believers as a guarantee or seal of their inheritance in Christ.
Ephesians 1:13-14(AMP) In Him, you also, when you heard the word of truth, the good news of your salvation, and [as a result] believed in Him, were stamped with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit [the One promised by Christ] as owned and protected [by God]. The Spirit is the guarantee [the first installment, the pledge, a foretaste] of our inheritance until the redemption of God’s own [purchased] possession [His believers], to the praise of His glory.
The Holy Spirit also teaches and guides Believers into all truth.
John 14:26(AMP) But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.
John 16:13(AMP) But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father—the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future].
The Holy Spirit leads and directs us, ensuring we walk in God’s will.
Romans 8:14(VOICE) If the Spirit of God is leading you, then take comfort in knowing you are His children.
Ephesians 1:13-14(TLB) And because of what Christ did, all you others too, who heard the Good News about how to be saved, and trusted Christ, were marked as belonging to Christ by the Holy Spirit, who long ago had been promised to all of us Christians. His presence within us is God’s guarantee that he really will give us all that he promised; and the Spirit’s seal upon us means that God has already purchased us and that he guarantees to bring us to himself. This is just one more reason for us to praise our glorious God.
The Holy Spirit is essential for life. Without the Spirit, we would be unable to live fruitful, and effective lives that God calls us to. It is through daily reliance on the Holy Spirit that we can grow, serve, and be taught by the Holy Spirit.
