A “wilderness experience” is a place of loneliness, confusion, frustration, hunger, and dryness. – You may struggle to survive from day to day due to a wilderness experience. Financial, material, physical, or emotional burdens may press on you.
The Bible is full of examples of people who had wilderness experiences. The children of Israel, spent forty years wandering in the wilderness, Joseph was cast off by his brothers in the wilderness, Moses, tending sheep for 40 years in the wilderness, Elijah, after confronting Ahab, David, hunted by King Saul, Job’s personal testing and Jesus was 40 days in the wilderness when he was tempted.
Psalm 107: 4 (NLT) “Some wandered in the wilderness, lost and homeless. 5 Hungry and thirsty, they nearly died.”
We all have gone through wilderness experiences; you may be in a wilderness now. Throughout the Bible God always shows-up in the wilderness. Most of the greatest miracles in the Bible took place in the wilderness. A wilderness creates an opportunity for God to be glorified.
Jeremiah 2:6 “They did not say, ‘Where is the Lord Who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, Who led us through the wilderness, Through a land of deserts and of pits, Through a land of drought and of deep darkness, Through a land that no one crossed and where no man dwelt?’
The most powerful prayer in the time of a wilderness experience, is “Lord, help”
Psalm 107:6 “Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he rescued them from their distress. 7 He led them straight to safety, to a city where they could live. 8 Let them praise the Lord for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for them. 9 For he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.”
The result of a cry, “Lord help” me is recorded in Psalm 107:35 “But he also turns deserts into pools of water, the dry land into springs of water. 36 He brings the hungry to settle there and to build their cities. 37 They sow their fields, plant their vineyards, and harvest their bumper crops. 38 How he blesses them! They raise large families there, and their herds of livestock increase.”
What an outcome? God turns deserts into pools of water, the dry land into springs of water.
If you are in a wilderness, pray this powerful prayer, “Lord help!”, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry too with good things.
One of the purposes of the wilderness is for God to show you that he is God. – Tony Evans
