Righteousness and peace kiss each other
Psalms 85:10(ESV) Steadfast love and faithfulness meet; righteousness and peace kiss each other.
This illustrates how the Lord’s attributes of righteousness and peace harmonise to provide comfort.
Isaiah 32:17(ESV) further links these attributes: And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever.
Despite human wrongdoing, God extends grace. Psalm 85 teaches us that God’s grace is greater than our sin. He brings peace through His righteousness, peace, faithfulness, and love uniting.
The ultimate fulfilment of love and faithfulness meeting together and of righteousness and peace kissing, is found in Jesus Christ’s work to reconcile the world to God.
Romans 5:1(ESV) states: Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Additionally, Romans 10:9-11(ESV) says: because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”
Ephesians 2:8-9(ESV) also reinforces this message: For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
To have peace with God, we must understand what it means to be in right standing with Him through faith in Christ. Knowing we are made right with God and that He loves and accepts us, allows us to enjoy peace with Him. Without this peace, it’s challenging to find peace within oneself or with others.
