Job 24 describes injustices in the world, where the wicked oppress the poor, disregard God’s commands, and seem to escape punishment. Job laments that God allows these wrongs to go unpunished, questioning divine justice.
God is watching over you
Job 24:1 (EASY)”Why has Almighty God not yet decided the time when he will judge wicked people? People who serve him faithfully continue to wait for justice.”
Job questions why God, in His omnipotence, delays justice, leaving the righteous waiting and the wicked seemingly unpunished. Feeling unfairly treated, he longs to present his case before God, knowing the faithful await God’s judgment.
Feeling distanced from God
Even though Job feels distanced from God and yearns to voice his grievances, he holds faith that God sees all. We, too, may feel unheard, but God is always aware of our circumstances.
Psalm 33:14-15 (EASY) affirms this: “From the place where he lives, he watches everyone that lives on the earth. He made each person and all their thoughts. He knows everything that they do.”
Psalm 33:18 (ESV) reiterates God’s watchfulness: “Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love.”
God consistently observes those who honour Him, promising His faithful attention and guidance. 2 Chronicles 16:9 (NLT) echoes this promise: “The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.”
God does not abandon the righteous, even when trials feel overwhelming. Job 36:7 (ESV) says: “He does not withdraw his eyes from the righteous, but with kings on the throne he sets them forever, and they are exalted.”
Similarly, 1 Peter 3:12 (ESV) states: “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. God treasures the humble and grants them victory, as Psalms 149:4 (NLT) says: “For the Lord delights in his people; he crowns the humble with victory.”
In our journey, God remains a steadfast guide. Psalms 32:8 (NLT) declares: “The Lord says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.”
C.S. Lewis insightfully remarked: “We are not necessarily doubting that God will do the best for us; we are wondering how painful the best will turn out to be.” Like Job, we may endure difficult times, but God’s ultimate purpose is for our good. His attentive care for those who fear Him provides a foundation of unshakeable security—He watches over us and will bring us through trials with His enduring strength.
