God’s love is integral to the true meaning of Christmas because if He did not love the world as He did, He would not have sent His Son to die on the cross. Christmas reminds the world that God loves everyone and that through His son Jesus, He made the forgiveness of sins possible.
Christmas is the season of great joy. It is a time of God showing His great love for us. It is a time of healing and renewed strength. You see, Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of the Christ child. God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to be born. His birth brought great joy to the world. Shepherds, wise men, and angels all shared the excitement of knowing about this great event. They knew this was no ordinary baby. The prophets had told of His coming hundreds of years before. The star stopped over Bethlehem just to mark the way for those looking for this special child.
Christmas is all about love. God’s love of us.
John 15:13 (NIV) Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
John 3:16, (NKJV) For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
This is perhaps the most well-known verse in the entire Bible, although it’s not often thought of as a Christmas verse. But it is! It tells us that God gave His Son. That, of course, refers to Him sending Jesus into the world on the day we now celebrate Christmas. And why did God bring us His Son on that first Christmas day?
Christmas is all about God’s love for us! It was that love that brought Jesus into the world to live and eventually die for us.
Christmas celebration is love in action! Christmas is a celebration of sharing. Apart from love, Christmas is all about sharing.
God, who is from everlasting to everlasting, who does not need anything from us, not praise nor love nor sacrifices created the universe from the outpouring of His love, which has existed from eternity between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He made us enjoy Him—to partake of His divine love and enjoy abundant life in His presence. And when, in the Garden of Eden, humanity rejected Him—God was yet faithful, promising a Saviour to redeem mankind to Himself. Christmas is the celebration of the fulfilment of this incredible promise of grace and love. Jesus, God the Son, emptied Himself and was born as a baby to die on a cross to give you His glory forever. Let us celebrate.
I pray that you will find the true meaning of Christmas. It’s not about exchanging gifts but seeing how God demonstrated His love for us by sending his only begotten Son to this world to pay a price we could never pay. It’s a story that goes back to the beginning of time and will continue until His return.
