In God, whose word I praise, I put my trust
David experienced many moments of fear and deep distress in his life. Psalm 56, penned during his capture by the Philistines in Gath, reflects such a time. Faced with numerous adversaries and constant peril, David consistently found solace in his faith.
Psalm 56:1-4(MSG) reads: Take my side, God—I’m getting kicked around, stomped on every day. Not a day goes by but somebody beats me up; they make it their duty to beat me up. When I get really afraid, I come to you in trust. I’m proud to praise God; now fearless, I trust in God. What can mere mortals do?
David always knew he could turn to the Lord in times of trouble, confident that only God could deliver him. When fear tempts us, we should immerse our minds and hearts in God’s promises. As stated in Psalm 56:3-4(AMP) When I am afraid, I will put my trust and faith in You. In God, whose word I praise; in God I have put my trust; I shall not fear. What can mere man do to me?
Thus, when fear strikes, lift your eyes to God and affirm, ‘I trust in you.’ Fear is a product of focusing on the turmoil of the world and the actions of others. This fear disappears when we direct our attention to the Lord, praising His word: In God, whose word I praise; in God I have put my trust. Fill your mind and heart with these promises from God’s word, with the truth it holds.
Romans 8:31(AMP) poses a powerful question: What then shall we say to all these things? If God is for us, who can be [successful] against us?
Place your trust in God’s promises and word. Psalm 56:9-11(AMP) assures us: Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call; This I know, that God is for me. In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise, in God have I put my trust and confident reliance; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
