I am a devoted slave of Jesus
Romans 1:1-6(NTL) This letter is from Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, chosen by God to be an apostle and sent out to preach his Good News. God promised this Good News long ago through his prophets in the holy Scriptures. The Good News is about his Son. In his earthly life he was born into King David’s family line, and he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord. Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name. And you are included among those Gentiles who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ.
Paul writes that he is a slave of Christ. What it means to be a slave of Christ, is to be abiding with Christ, like the slaves used to abide or live with their masters. It means we submit our will to His will. It means we own nothing, except that which He has given us.
Romans 6:22(ESV) But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.
As slaves of Christ, we identify Jesus as our Lord and Master. Paul teaches that everyone is a slave of the one whom we obey–either of God or of sin. This means that if we are not obeying God as His slaves, we are slaves of sin.
Being a slave of Christ, means that we life for Christ and is under His control and guidance.
Romans 14:7–8(ESV) For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.
1 Corinthians 3:23(ESV) and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.
2 Corinthians 10:7(ESV) Look at what is before your eyes. If anyone is confident that he is Christ’s, let him remind himself that just as he is Christ’s, so also are we.
When we accept Jesus as our Lord, mature in faith, committed to daily prayer, read and study the Word of God, standing in relationship with Him through the Holy Spirit, we are no longer slaves to sin, but are instead slaves to God.
