Matthew 14:23b-25 (NLT) Night fell while he was there alone. Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water.
You are never alone. Expect God to be with you in the storms. He will walk across the lake to be with you, strengthen and guide you safely to shore. Remember He is El Roi, the God who sees. Jesus saw the disciples even when they couldn’t see him. He knows our struggles.
Ro’iy a Hebrew word, can be translated as a shepherd or as seeing, looking, or gazing. When we feel most invisible and forgotten by everyone, the One who sees us, loves His children very much. He watches over our lives and sees our struggles even when they’re not visible to others because of this truth: God doesn’t just see you – He attends to your every need! Just think, if He sees the sparrows and takes care of them, how much more does He see and care for us?
Hagar was a slave who had been used and verbally abused. Hagar was a woman amazed that God had heard her cries and had seen her misery. She was amazed that God had seen her plight and had spoken to her. This is what she said: Genesis 16:13-14 (ESV) So she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.”
God sees us. He sees you. He hears you! God sees you in your weariness. God sees you in your pain, confusion, and suffering. God sees you when you feel abandoned and think no one cares about you. God sees you in your storm.
2 Chronicles 16:9a (NLT) The eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.
Psalm 121:3-8 (NLT) He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. The LORD himself watches over you! The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. The LORD keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.
Deuteronomy 32:10 (ESV) “He found him in a desert land, and in the howling waste of the wilderness; he encircled him, he cared for him, he kept him as the apple of his eye.
Deuteronomy 11:12b (ESV) The eyes of the LORD your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.
In our darkest moments, we may feel all alone but El Roi, the God who sees, never loses sight of us, and promises to care for us. What greater assurance can we find? In the storm, God will always help and support you. You are never alone.
