Since we have these promises, live a life set apart for God’s purposes

2 Corinthians 7:1(AMP) Therefore, since we have these [great and wonderful] promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, completing holiness [living a consecrated life—a life set apart for God’s purpose] in the fear of God.‘Since we have these promises,’ says Paul, ‘let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.’ He is undoubtedly referring to those precious promises noted at the close of chapter six: These promises include God’s assurance to dwell among His people, to be their God, and for them to be His people. The verse encourages us to respond to these promises by cleansing ourselves from defilement and pursuing holiness in the fear of God.2 Corinthians 6:16-18(NLV) How can the house of God get along with false gods? We are the house of the living God. God has said, “I will live in them and will walk among them. I will be their God and they will be My people.” The Lord has said, “So come out from among them. Do not be joined to them. Touch nothing that is sinful. And I will receive you. I will be a Father to you. You will be My sons and daughters, says the All-powerful God.”This promise emphasises the intimate relationship between God and His people. It speaks of God’s desire to dwell with His chosen ones and walk among them, establishing a personal and ongoing connection. These verses highlight the call for us to separate ourselves from anything that is unclean or defiling. God promises to welcome us, to be a Father to us, and to receive us as His sons and daughters. It signifies the intimate familial relationship and acceptance that God extends to those who walk in holiness.Achieving a consecrated life requires a personal relationship with God, reliance on His grace and strength, and intentional spiritual discipline. Here are a few practical steps to pursue a consecrated life.- Regularly studying and meditating on God’s Word, Psalm 119:11(ESV) I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.- Cultivating a prayer life and seeking God’s guidance, 1 Thessalonians 5:17(NIV) pray continually.- Being accountable to fellow Believers and participating in a supportive Christian community, Hebrews 10:24-25(NIV) And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.-Avoiding sin and compromise, 1 Corinthians 15:33(ESV) Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”- Developing a heart of worship towards God, Psalm 100:4(NIV) Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.I conclude with James 4:8a(NIV) Come near to God and he will come near to you.
