29 July Psalm 90

Teach us to number our days

Psalm 90:12(NIV) Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Our earthly lives will not last long, and we need wisdom to prepare for what follows.

Jesus gave a parable that also explains what happens when we don’t number our days.

Luke 12:19-21(AMP) And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many good things stored up, [enough] for many years; rest and relax, eat, drink and be merry (celebrate continually).”’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own all the things you have prepared?’ So it is for the one who continues to store up and hoard possessions for himself, and is not rich [in his relationship] toward God.”

We number of days by putting God first in everything we do.

Psalms 37:23(ESV) The steps of a man are established by the LORD, when he delights in his way;

Ephesians 2:10(ESV) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Matthew 6:33(ESV) But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Those who never learn to number their days, spend them as if this life is all there is.

Psalm 90:5(NIV) Yet you sweep people away in the sleep of death— they are like the new grass of the morning:

Hebrews 9:27(ESV) And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.

We must learn to number our days, to see each day as a valuable gift and an opportunity to grow our relationship with God, and make Him the priority of every day.

Proverbs 3:6(TLB) In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.
